Video games may be a fun diversion to people, but the video game industry is worth billions. The best selling Xbox games have sold millions of copies and each of these Xbox games has provided gamers with a story line and virtual action. The best selling Xbox games allow people to be someone else, to be the hero. Among the best selling Xbox games are Halo 2, Halo and Splinter Cell. These games have sold over nine million, five million and two million, respectively. For the newer Xbox 360, the top two titles are Gears of War which sold four million copies, and Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion which sold three million copies. Each of the games has something different to offer gamers, but all are beloved by millions.

Halo 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved are first person shooter games relying on the same premise. Halo is set in the year 2552 when humans have developed spacecraft that can travel faster than the speed of light. Thanks to the improved technology, humans have colonized foreign planets. This colonization has spurred a war with genocidal aliens known as the Covenant. The purpose of the game is to fight the aliens and win the war. Because of the success of these best selling Xbox games, a third installation of Halo will debut on September 25 in America.

Another of the best selling Xbox games, Splinter Cell, is endorsed by author Tom Clancy. The plotline follows Sam Fisher, a man trying to prevent terrorists from attacking with weapons of mass destruction. Fisher is a member of the Third Echelon, an elite branch of the National Security Administration. In Splinter Cell, missions can consist of either gathering information or killing terrorist enemies. One of the key aspects of the game is the character's necessity to remain unseen. In this Xbox game, if Fisher kills innocents or makes a scene, the enemies become aware of his presence.

Although it was sold for Xbox 360, Gears of War is one of the best selling Xbox games. Gears of War, like the other best selling Xbox games, is a shooter game. In Gears of War, the player is Marcus Flint, a character fighting against the Locust Horde. The opponents are fierce, hideous and scary, and because of this, the game is targeted for older players. This, as with other Xbox 360 games, is another fight between good and evil.

Finally, Elder Scroll IV Oblivion is another of the best selling Xbox games. Like the other best selling Xbox games, Elder Scroll IV Oblivion is a single-player game. The plot of Elder Scroll IV Oblivion centers on finding the hidden heir to the throne. Without an heir, the gates of Oblivion open and unleash demons that strike in the towns. The plot line is certainly different from the rest, as is the game.

Each of these Xbox games has been played hundreds of millions of times by loving fans. The graphics are impressive and the action is undeniable. People anxiously await to see if the debut of Halo 3 will break its predecessor's records. Either way, these Xbox games have had a huge influence on today's Xbox games industry and have stayed in the hearts of gamers worldwide.
