Video games have come a long way since the pixelated pictures of Sonic and Mario. In fact, as video game systems continue to evolve, they are abandoning wires and embracing high definition TV and online multiplayer games. The Xbox, one of the most advanced gaming consoles on the market, utilizes the latest technology to provide players the most exciting and unique gaming experience.
Created by Microsoft and launched November 15, 2001, the Xbox has changed the way people play video games. As the fifth generation gaming console to be designed by this company, it was the first to utilize a hard disk drive so players could save games without having to purchasing separate memory cards. This innovative hardware also allows players to download their favorite CDs and create their own soundtrack, further personalizing each video game. Although the DVD-rom makes the Xbox much larger than its competitors, the advanced features compensate for this drawback.
The Xbox 360, Microsoft’s latest edition to the gaming world, offers even more features that its predecessor. These products were designed for high-definition, wide screen TVs; although they will work well on other TVs as well. Each console comes with a removable 20 gigabyte hard drive, three processors and a custom graphics card. The “360” represents a complete gaming experience where players decisions allow every part of the game to “revolve” around them.
The Xbox 360 comes in several consoles that come with different accessories. The core console is available for $279.99 and includes just the basics so players can plug-in their game and begin. Many of the accessories, such as the headset and wireless controller, must be purchased separately. The Elite Console, on the other hand, is available for $449.99 and includes a large hard drive, wireless controller and wired headset. The Halo 3 console is the special edition console on the market at this time, unique with its “Spartan green and gold” finish. The benefit of the Elite and the Halo 3 consoles is they are compatible with any Xbox games.
One of the most innovative features of the Xbox consoles are their online multiplayer games. An Xbox Live subscription allows players to compete against others anywhere in the world, using these connections to find troubleshooting and short-cut ideas. Because of its cinema-quality graphics, Xbox Live will work only with a broadband internet connection. Each Xbox Live subscription costs about $50 a year, a fair price for hard-core gaming enthusiasts.
With its live gaming and hard drive capabilities, the Xbox allows each player to become the focal point of each game. With these innovative Xbox consoles, players are able to experience a more vivid and entertaining gaming world.
