Buy Xbox: Prices, Refurbished And Cheap Xbox Video Games

Published: September 24, 2007
Aside from the inherent competitive nature of most gamers, there is the competition which lies in who can acquire a video gaming console the fastest. However, those first in line for these lucrative consoles should expect to pay exorbitant amounts. One of the most popular gaming units, the Xbox, premiered in 2001.
The unit retailed for a cool $299, out of the price range for most teenage gamers. With the inception of the Xbox 360, this cost skyrocketed. Released in 2005, those who bought the 360 fresh off the factory line paid $400 for the complete system. However, as time passes and new consoles are released, the fervor transfers to the next new technology in gaming. Hence, those looking to buy Xbox present day are met with a lower cost and discounted systems.
When Microsoft's Xbox first came into the market, its direct competition was Playstation 2 and Nintendo Game Cube. Xbox was the best selling unit for years; paired with the best selling game Halo, the demand was insatiable. However, the cost dropped dramatically by 2004, retailing for $149. With the release of Xbox 360 impending, many sold or traded in their original system. Microsoft eventually discontinued Xbox in November 2006, and most of the new 360 games cannot be played on the original system.
However, Xbox still has fans. Due to the Xbox Live feature, allowing multiplayer gaming, the original unit still retains some of its initial appeal. For those not interested in shelling out $400 for the 360, the original console is not only affordable, but its advanced gaming technology is still worth the money. Since the Xbox has been discontinued, prices have fallen even more. Refurbished or used systems can be found at a multitude of discount websites, and for cheap.
GameStop is a retailer of used and new games and systems. With over 4500 stores nationwide and a fully stocked website, obtaining an original, discounted Xbox is easier than ever. GameStop sells a refurbished version for $80, a steal considering the original cost of the unit. The console is gently used and does not have the original box. Those looking to buy Xbox, but not willing to pay cost, should invest in a gently used system. It does come with all the necessary cables, controllers and headset.
GameStop does not sell new Xbox consoles, however, Amazon's website does. At Amazon.com, new units retail for just under $200. Used systems retail for around $63. The prices for these units are affordable for those interested in gaming without dipping into their savings, or for the diehard fans who refuse to upgrade to the 360 unit. With a little searching, Xbox consoles featuring cheap price tags are readily available.
Undoubtedly, the gaming world will continue to produce more advanced consoles as new technology is discovered. However, those still interested in the gaming units of old, namely the Xbox, can find them for dramatically discounted costs. Now gamers do not have to break the bank in order to break their opponents in their favorite games.
